Please help. I am burdened with student loans. I was once able to handle the payments but then my wife got sick with heart related issues and I lacked insurance. Because I found myself in a crisis I had to make a choice to pay the medical bills. This made me fall seriously behind in my student loan payments.

Even though the student loan department was gracious enough to forebear the payments they did not stop the interest going to the loan and kept adding to the over all amount. Once I finished paying off the doctors bills I worked out a payment with the student loan department for some reasonable payment amounts. For the past 10 years I have been paying on my student loans but they aren’t getting smaller. The interest that is being applied to the student loans is so high that the payments I am making aren’t even covering the interest. Due to the interest, my $40k USD student loan is almost $100k USD with no end in sight.

I have a bachelors degree in Speech Therapy but it is absolutely useless because the profession requires a Masters degree or above. I cannot afford to go back to school and I certainly can’t get any sort of college aid. Even though I work as a Network Engineer I do not make enough money to cover it.

These student loans have seriously impacted me and my family. The student loan department has the right to do anything they want and there is no way for me to stop them from adding more money to the loan. The borrower is not protected one iota from the student loan department so I ask for your help.
